THE SHORT HISTORY OF THE ORIGIN OF SOLOMON MAHLANGU CAMPUS

/
In 1978 the ANC decided to set up education facilities outside South Africa to benefit exiles that were freedom fighters for independence of South Africa in mazimbu at Sokoine University Solomon mahlangu campus. Its where the first batch of ANC freedom fighters arrived seeking political asylum. They run from the apartheid regime in S.Africa and by then the
Tanzanian president late J.K. Nyerere offered them the land and started a new life, hence Tanzania became their home and about 21 countries contributed to ensuring that their stay in Tanzania was comfortable and meaningful. Mazimbu served as a political strategy centre of sorts for freedom fighters . some of the top ANC officials who lived here, women and men went on to lead South Africa including the current president of S.Africa Jacob Zuma they spend their lives time at mazimbu until 1992 when they went back and their leader was Oliver Tambo who infact is the one who lived here longer. Solomon Mahlangu was executed in 1979 a year after the first ANC liberators landed here in Tanzania. Therefore in his honour the institution was renamed, today its known as the SOLOMON MAHLANGU CAMPUS
Entrance gate at grave yard
Hence in memory of freedom fighters there are grave yards which is honored place where the souls of south Africans freedom fighters for independence were buried and the place is considered as a learning historical sites for young generations of south African republic and their fellow from Tanzania to value and preserve the fruits attained through struggling for independence and freedom. Therefore we visited grave yard as a dedication for us as a young generation to value the ideal history of our countries and consider it as a reference point when we make decision on various matter which traces the interest of the nation bear in mind that there are people who lost their life’s, assets and humanity so as to ensure that the coming generation be benefited.

The grave yard has been maintained preserved in good condition to reflect value and respect paid to late freedom fighters of South African republic who camped here at mazimbu many years ago. The Tanzanians in cooperation with south Africans ensured that the yard is well maintained so as to remain as historical site for learning and imparting a spirit patriotism to young generation on national matters

We dedicate this visit to our father of nation the late Mwl.J.K.Nyerere for his kindness and a heart of Patriotic; he was not satisfied for his nation to be Independent while other African nations were still struggling for independence.” With all freedom Fighters we pray for YOU let our GOD rest your souls in PEACE AMEN…
